You might not be heading to Iowa anytime soon, but if you are, be sure to check out the race track in the Notion of Motion exhibit! I helped design it! This episode’s project is similar to the racetrack in that the theme to work with is friction or the lack thereof and how this influences an objects ability to move. There are of course other factors involved with the movement of an object, what do you think those might be? Let’s find out!
- At least two 6 foot sections of 1-1/2 inch diameter foam pipe insulation, that’s 183 cm long and 4 cm across (Home Depot, Lowe’s, and any other hardware place will have them pretty cheap)
- Marbles
- Utility knife
- Masking tape
- Tape measure
- Bookshelf, table, or other support for roller coaster starting point
