ABCya: http://abcya.com/word_clouds.htm Word cloud program that works with most servers (that I've found so far). The formations and pallets are a bit on the thin side, but it gets the job done to introduce the concepts of "word cloud formation". Example to the right =====================================> |

If you have a particular shape that you would like to have your words expressed in, this is a "step up" from Wordle. For example, my son imported the words from his report on airplanes to create an airplane for a cover page! What can YOU design!

10PaperAirPlanes.com: http://www.10paperairplanes.com/
Now that you know the name of the site, this is a beginner paper airplane builder's best bet to get it done correctly. There are A LOT of paper airplane sites but through my research this one had the fewest hiccups.
Funpaperairplanes.com has REALLY good templates with numbers for folds and to help explain variables in paper plane flight: http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/paper-airplane-simulator/

FLIPBOOK!: http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipbookdeluxe/guest.php
This is the simplest of the "draw to create animation" sites I have found. The version here is a free and allows for 100 frames and an online posting.

Cargo Bridge: http://www.engineering.com/content/g12/cargo_bridge.html
One of the many games online that assist with the learning of bridge building. This one has been highlighted here due to the economic spin that is included. The simple graphics are nice, but do not be fooled by them. A little time is required to read the objective and how to best go about it.

Gardening Zone: http://gardeningzone.com/
A site that is different from others found here in that it sells items for your gardening needs. In particular, the insects are the best prices online! The ladybugs and praying mantis are fantastic for observations in a natural setting or in your specific indoor terrarium. The Kid's Zone is a good place for your summer fun needs (best to get your OWN ladybug habitat though).

The Innards: http://www.coolgames.com/the-innards.html
Very simple premise , move the cursor which is an amoeba, around in a body system without touching the cancer cells (that actually look more like white blood cells).
Think the '80 game "Asteroids" without the shooting...
Here's a site that I'd like to use to explain carbohydrate/protein channeling: http://www.tetrisgames4all.com/game.php?spel=Tetris+Jungle&game=82
Please be aware that similar to a few other sites that have games which can be used for education, there are other games within the site that have NOTHING educationally beneficial to them (other than taking a quick mental break).
Moo Cab:
http://www.abc.net.au/abc3/games/game.html?id=3545469
All I can say is be careful! I had waaaaay moo much fun with this game. This is one of those mental breaks I talked about with the Innards information. This could loosely be used to discuss gravity or the third Law of Motion, but could also start an interesting conversation about science fiction and its place in popular culture.

museum of science+industry: http://msichicago.org/
The world famous and largest space dedicated to the informal sciences is by far one of my favorite online sites to check out. This is the place that most other science centers aspire to be. The online activity, Simple Machines, had my 6th graders busy for days!

Neuroscience for Kids: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/experi.html
Superb! Fantastic! Educational! FUN! Having studied neuroscience on the graduate level, this site is a goldmine of information to convey the major concepts of neurology. The links do not take you to the home page, but to the observation, experiment, and games page.

Oil Strike: http://games.co.za/oil-strike.html
Not sure how much of the stuff we've got left so I HAD to put this game in! There are actually a number of ways to integrate this into a lesson through environmental issues, geography, world economics to start. This is a british produced website so another extension might be to connect with a resresentive classroom a find out if there are any differences in a person's or class' outcome.

Rader's CHEM4KIDS!: http://www.chem4kids.com/
Rader's CHEM4KIDS is one of the BEST hubs for information on the internet. There might not be the incredible depth on every topic, but even the introductory information is better than the content on other sites, and there are links to other sites as well. The site list serves as the best place to start if you are looking for something specific, similar to an index. Not only is there this chemistry site, but there is an astronomy, biology, earth science, physics, AND math site that follow the same model.

World of Goo: iDevice, BigFishGames.com, or Wii download
THIS is something every household deserves to have. It reaches your puzzlers, engineers, artists, and gamers. Getting the various types of Goo into the designated tubes IS a simple goal, but the process to do so will keep you coming back for more!
